Even though it is called a Sea, the Perlin Sea is actually an enormous freshwater lake, large enough to sport sizable tides that follow Buna, and while there is no known exact measure for its size, it is estimated to be over 700 miles (over 1100 km) in length, and it takes a sailboat over 20 days to cross straight, but the usual routes travel for more than two months, since they stop on the numerous fishing villages and cities along the way to supply and trade. Only the hardiest airships can cross the whole lake without stopping, since it takes 3 days of straight flight to cross it. Boarding these usually military vessels is extremely costly, as every non-essential must be dispensed to conserve fuel, so tickets are worth small fortunes to those needing and able to pay for the speedy travel.

The main settlements around Perlin are concentrated around the three Kindoms, Karth, with its capital Kharheggen, Drachten, the elven city-state, and the dwarven kingdom of Dahl, which while it is mainly located on the Dalhelm fortress in the serra, has dominion over the lowlands in the brun valley and the Roduran front.

Around the lake climate is generally mild, never freezing completely, but freezing the shores in winter, making fishing a little more risky. Woods around the lake do not host sizable hardwood species, so while firewood and logs for small homes or fences are plenty, large timbers for ship’s masts or building’s beams need to the region from other places. The land around the lake is fertile and providing, some edible grasses grow on its shores and small game abounds around the coastal shrubbery and low forests. The largest natural predators around the lake are wolves and bears, but the lake is a hub for natural leylines, so magical beasts are born often on its woods, and rogue elementals spawning cause havoc  if the surrounding kingdoms dont keep a close eye on the roads.

The souther part of the lake is flanked at both shores by the Perlin Forest proper, which filled to the brim with thick brush and spiny bushes, making it very unpleasant to traverse on foot. Wild Wockeys only known habitat are these shores and forests, and the animals are quite prized by the thick leathery plates that grow on their backs, which they use protect themselves from the spiny, poisonous, and irritant underground of the forest when escaping predators. “like chasing wockeys” is a common saying among the people of the Perlin sea that means “a very unpleasant experience with low chance of success”

A risky, but very profitable occupation around the lake is diving for the water crystals that slowly grow on the bottom of the lake, it’s extremely dangerous because the Leviathans are very aggressive and territorial, and the Nessians living in the lake like to collect the crystals to make the rim of their circular nests, and will viciously attack anyone who gets close to their spawn.
